Haunold

Since 1560, Zacher family has operated a handicraft business in South Tyrol. And for many generations, the family has practised the art of wool-working in San Candido/Innichen, surrounded by the South Tyrolean Dolomites.

As hat makers, their ancestors used sheep wool to make fulled felt and stretched it on strips to make hats and slippers. Zacher father, Leopold, has handed down this skill of wool working to his five children Hannes, Hedwig, Alois, Friedrich, and Christina. As a family business, they have succeeded in keeping this seemingly forgotten craft alive and developed it in a way that stands the test of time. In the factory in San Candido/Innichen, Zacher family transform wool into the original Haunold® fulled felt based on traditional hat-making methods. Therefore, they also use historic fulling mill, which was used to work by the great-grandfather. The fact that the family only make slippers today and no longer hats proves that we can adapt to the times. Who knows what the next generation will make out of fulled felt ...
